The Holistic Health Practitioner Training Diploma Program is a 844-hour professional training program in holistic and energetic studies. Created in 1994,it continues to be the most current, comprehensive and inclusive program in complementary and alternative healthcare in the country. The program
has been re-designed to bring Certificates and the Diploma program into better alignment.The program offers:

  • A unique integration of physical, holistic, and energetic modalities
  • A spiritual approach which forms the foundation for the program
  • An opportunity for students to do their own inner healing and embark upon a spiritual journey while studying
  • Instructors who are professionals actively involved in their practices and communities
  • An integrated learning model with most theory being taught on-line as well as ON-SITE in person practical, hands-on approach to modalities.
  • On-line learning courses are recorded so that any student who misses a class may request a copy and stay up to date. To protect students’ and, where applicable ‘clients’, privacy, copies will only be from the class you are enrolled in.

The full Holistic Diploma Program integrates on-line theoretical with live on-site practicums for applicable courses. The Diploma Program is also complimented by 4 Certificate Programs. The Diploma and Certificates all have a requisite number of courses, then you can follow the schedule you are registered in. The new benefit here is – say you are in the full diploma
program and have successfully passed all the courses for the Bodywork Certificate, you can apply for the Certificate and go off and practice Bodywork. Then when you decide to resume the full Diploma Program, you can just plug back in and carry on with the next courses. You can attain your full Diploma plus the Certificates all in your course of study here at Transformational Arts.

The on-line classes are week night evenings and are instructor-led. All classes are taught by skilled practitioners in the subject(s) they are teaching. Practicum classes are held on weekends and will
sometimes include the Friday and Monday. Including these additional days will provide a richer experience and expedite the time to program completion.

Should you miss a class, you can request a recorded copy of the class, as all classes are recorded. To maintain your privacy, you will receive the recording of the class you are registered in. Same teacher and same classmates. Practicum classes will not be recorded. Given this information, attendance does play a role in your grades and if your attendance is lagging then a chat with administration can hopefully work things out.

If you stay up to date with assignments and case studies, you can attain your Diploma in 16 months.

Anatomy and Physiology

This 36-hour course has been designed for individuals professionally or personally involved in holistic health care. It is a pre-requisite for most Holistic Studies courses. A system approach is taken in understanding the human body:

  • Body systems—muscular, skeletal, nervous, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine, immune, reproductive and integumentary
  • Stress—its impact on anatomy, physiology and the immune system

Pathology

In this 21-hour holistically-focused course, discover the structural and functional changes in cells, tissue and organs that underlie ‘dis-ease’. Local, systemic and symptoms of disease, with an emphasis on exploring the physical, emotional and spiritual interconnectedness of disease, as well as clinical relevance, will also be covered.

Aromatherapy  Course 

Aromatherapy is the use of aromatic, botanical essential oils to balance and rejuvenate body, mind and spirit and to alleviate symptoms of illness. This 3 part course  involves the study of 40 essential oils, history, safety, sustainability, sourcing, industry insight, holistic skin care and an in depth exploration of a variety of application techniques for various ailments. 

 Upon completion of this course and the required 10 case studies to verify your understanding, you will have the knowledge to effectively and safely integrate aromatherapy into your holistic modalities. For those wishing to pursue additional aromatherapy studies towards a certification please speak with your teacher to arrange registration and transfer of your 120 hour credits.

Aromatherapy 1- Essential Oils (45 hours)
Aromatherapy 2 – Blending and Product Development (30 hours)

In these modules you will explore:

  1. History and introduction to essential oils. Study of 10 essential oils.
  2. Absorption of oils through skin and lungs, olfaction and blood brain barrier. Safety data and contraindications.
  3. Extraction, quality and basic chemistry of oils. Complex and multi-condition blending. Compresses, ointments, vegetable butters and clay.
  4. Client assessment and case study form. Contraindications to massage and basic safety.
  5. Blending for specific conditions such as pain, cellulite, arthritis, digestion, etc.
  6. Aromatherapy Applications.
  7.  Practicum for treatment. Case study supervision.
  8.  Complete 10 case studies for the program.

Swedish Basics

Along with being pleasurable and relaxing to experience, massage assists the body’s natural regenerative capacity. Through massage, the body releases endorphins; pain and tension are lessened.

This 30-hour course covers:

  • The muscular/skeletal system and the art of massage
  • Strokes and massage techniques— effleurage and petrissage
  • Routine for a basic, full body massage
  • Benefits, uses and contraindications for massage
  • Specific treatments to release muscular tension
  • Routines for relief of headaches, general ailments, aches and pains

Shiatsu Basics

Shiatsu is a Japanese healing art commonly known as acupuncture without needles. Finger pressure is used on points of the body’s meridian system to normalize the flow of life force.

This 30-hour introductory course covers:

  • Shiatsu therapy principles/yin and yang in relation to emotional & mental states
  • The study and practice of recognition principles, empathetic connection and diagnosis / treatment of the meridian system, including the 12 main meridians.

Reflexology Certification Course (C.R.H.P.)

Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflex points in the feet and hands which correspond to every body part, organ and gland. Stimulation of the reflex points can help to alleviate health problems, stress and balance body functions.

Foot treatments are said to dissolve the hardened toxins, which accumulate in the body in the form of tiny crystals.

Upon completion of the course, exam and case studies, the student can become a Certified Reflexologist.

Homeopathy Basics

Homeopathic medicine is the fastest growing medicine in the world. It is based on the concept ‘like cures like.’ This means that a substance will cure symptoms in a sick person when given in infinitesimal doses, although when taken in overdose, it would cause symptoms in a healthy person. Homeopathy treats the whole person not just the symptom.

Natural nutrition acknowledges that the body functions best when it is nourished from whole, live and natural foods supplied by nature. Nutritional symptomatology is the process of interpreting bodily symptoms to find underlying causes and nutritional imbalance. This 30-hour introductory course teaches you how nutrition affects the body at a cellular level with optimal food choices. Diversity Course 

This course takes us gently into our internal world of biases, privilege and racism. We all like to believe we are not racist, but it is so very difficult to escape what we heard and saw while growing up. Our language, our humour, our unconscious sense of privilege are all markers of how racism surfaces without awareness.

Learn how racism cuts off our connections to others personally and in our communities. On top of connecting to others, how racism impacts our spiritual life.

The complex issues and dynamics intersecting race, class, gender, and sexuality which challenge our democratic and humanitarian values and ideals, are explored with a focus on understanding the value of diversity, inclusion and equity while we better understand ourselves, our clients and communities.

Learn the damage to others when people tell inappropriate jokes or may use language that points at racial groups, members of the LGBTQ+ community and women.

Reiki I Certificate

Reiki is a laying-on of hands technique thought to be of Tibetan Buddhist origin that was rediscovered in Japan in the 1800s. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘spiritually guided life force energy’. It is a non-invasive healing technique in which the client participates in their own healing.

This 15-hour course covers:

  • History of Reiki
  • Each student experiences a Reiki attunement to connect to the Reiki source

Reiki II

The Reiki Usui method of natural healing facilitates hands-on healing that promotes physical, emotional, mental and spiritual balance in a non-invasive and nurturing way. It can be used as a tool for healing, transformation and illumination. Reiki is used to treat chronic and acute physical symptoms and emotional and mental distress. If you have been practicing Reiki and feel you want more, then Reiki II is the next step.

Second Degree Reiki integrates further attunements to allow the practitioner to participate in absentee healing and to deal with mental and emotional healing. Through these energy transmissions your own energy is refined and your ability to channel energy is heightened.

The Reiki II course content includes a method of sending distance healing as well as a method of mental and emotional relaxation for yourself or a client. You will be initiated into the second degree and more of the symbols, language and ethics of Reiki will be explained.

Sound Energetics

Crystal Energy Work

As gifts from the earth resonating with multidimensional frequencies, crystals can be used for many purposes — balancing energies, assisting with healing, and expanding awareness. Crystals transmit and receive energy bringing our life force into alignment with our full potential.

Chakra Studies II

This course builds on Meditation and the Chakras (TS-01), exploring chakras and the human energy field in context of physical disease and energetic healing.

This 30-hour course covers:

  • Energy anatomy & the 7 major chakras
  • Principles of energy medicine— towards a vision for a new medicine
  • The physical illnesses and energetic blocks of the chakras. How illness occurs in the human energy field

Medical Intuition, Guided Imagery and Prayer

Understand possible psychospiritual influences behind illness and disease.

This 30-hour course covers:

  • Understanding the symbolism of the body’s physical and energetic anatomy
  • Looking at disease as energy blockages of the chakras
  • Determining the possible psychospiritual influences behind illness, notwithstanding that genetic, environmental, lifestyle and congenital factors may be at play

Guided Imagery:

  • A powerful mind/body tool that can help to heal disease
  • Learn how to use guided imagery for specific ailments
  • Types of imagery—active, receptive, end state, etc.

Prayer:

  • Scientific, medical research on prayer
  • Use of directed vs. non-directed prayer to promote health

Bach Flower Remedies

Bach Flower Remedies are a natural, vibrational healing system of flower essences derived from nature. The remedies help restore balance to the mental and emotional bodies of the energy field, thereby strengthening the physical body and helping it resist disease.

This 8-hour course covers:

  • The history of Bach Flower Remedies
  • Becoming familiar with the energetic qualities of the 38 flower essences and their indications
  • How to choose the right remedy for enhancing healing and health

Holistic Practitioner Training Program 

The mark of a good holistic practitioner is their ability to support the client in setting and reaching goals for physical well-being; to discern when clients need a sympathetic ear, emotional support to deal with their ailments; and to offer a safe and comfortable environment for clients which allows for honest exploration of the emotional connections to ailments.

Course Information:

Who is the program for?

  • For those wanting to pursue a full-time or part-time career in holistic health.
  • For traditional health professionals who want to pursue a holistic orientation in their work to complement conventional medicine.
  • For those who want to take the program for personal reasons only so they can take more responsibility for their own health or family’s health.
  • Exemptions will be given for participants who already have certification in the listed courses, upon receipt of their transcripts or diplomas.

Pre or Co-Requisites and Requirements

  • Enrollment in the College’s Discovering the Total Self Program—Courses 1, 4, 5,  6. Courses 1 and 5 are pre-requisites for most Energetic Studies courses.
  • 25 hours of psychotherapy to graduate from the program. To be an effective healer we need to do our own emotional healing or inner work. 

Psychotherapy

Students have access to individual psychotherapy sessions at Transformational Arts’ Psychotherapy. Fees range from $125 to $150 includes HST per hour. Both Gord Riddell and Linda Kuschnir are Registered Psychotherapists and Spiritual Directors and are available for your psychotherapy needs. Please be advised that Transformational Arts does not advocate having more than one therapist at a time.
 
Confidentiality

Students who choose to explore psychotherapy through the Transformational Arts Psychotherapy are assured of confidentiality between themselves and their psychotherapist. Transformational Arts wish to provide every opportunity for students’ successful growth and development in the programs.

Case Studies

122 Case Studies in the various modalities need to be completed in order to receive a Diploma from the College. Additional Case Studies are required for Aromatherapy and Reflexology legal designations.

Case Studies are optional for those completing the program for personal reasons only.

Class Attendance

Students must attend 100% of 1 or 2-day, 90% of 30 hours or more classes to receive certificates and/or diploma. 75% attendance is required for Total Self courses.

Credit Hours

College of Massage Therapists (CEU’s) The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario has qualified the following courses as Continuing Education Units (CEUs):

  • Counselling Skills
  • Reiki I

Diplomas and Certificates

Upon completion of the courses, exams, case studies, and all other requirements, the graduate will receive a Holistic Health Practitioner Diploma from Transformational Arts. 

Individual Certificates will also be given for:

  • Fundamental Herbology
  • Homeopathy
  • Nutritional Symptomatology
  • Reiki I and Reiki II

Exams, Designations, and Fees

  • The Canadian Examining Board of Health Care Practitioners has granted Transformational Arts the designation C.N.H.P. (Certified Natural Health Practitioner) for the Holistic Health Practitioner Training Diploma Program. This designation may be used anywhere in Canada as a legal suffix after the practitioner’s name.
  • At present time the field of holistic health is an unregulated profession. Should regulations be imposed in the future, people registered with the Board having this designation will be given priority.
  • The C.N.H.P. designation is optional to students. The fee is $500.
  • The fee for the designation to become a Certified Aromatherapist (C.A.H.T.) or Certified Reflexologist (C.R.H.P.) is $500. Cost to write the exams is $100 each.
  • Designation and exam fees qualify for tuition tax credits.
  • If the student applies for more than 1 designation, the fee for further designations is only $125.
  • Designations must be renewed annually for a fee of $125.
  • 15 hours of Continuing Education Credits must be done annually to keep the designation valid.

Tuition: $12,740

  • Fees for the 4 required Total Self courses are included
  • Administrative and Materials Fee of $765 applies.
  • Cost for massage tables, bodywork supplies, teacher manuals, textbooks and some materials fees are additional.
  • Financial plans are available.
  • Tuition tax credits are given for this program which is HST exempt.
  • Exemptions for prior certifications are possible. Tuition fees will be adjusted.
  • A $300 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of application.
  • Students must be 18 years of age or older and completed high school. Mature students with differing educational backgrounds are invited to apply.

Once the program reaches maximum capacity applicants are placed on a waiting list. Acceptance into the program is conditional and may require an interview
